An Open Society Finds Balance by Swinging Between Extremes
In an open society, balance is always found by swinging between extremes. The IMF crisis bankrupted many companies, but it also taught countless companies the importance of accounting and of separating finance from industry. In a closed society, by contrast, contradictions run into a threshold they cannot pass, just as the Soviet Union did, and the society collapses all at once.
These extremes create We Must Understand Collective Trauma, and that trauma is what pushes a society toward balance through the extremes.
