Metacognition
Namuwiki - Go to
If you have excellent metacognitive ability, you can learn quickly by taking on appropriate challenges at the right time. For example, suppose a child who has been learning to swim for a month asks themselves, "Can I finish 100 meters?" and concludes that they cannot. Metacognition is what is used to judge whether it is physical strength or technique that is lacking in this process.
Therefore, the higher one's metacognitive ability, the more accurately one grasps one's abilities and limitations, and the more appropriately one invests time and effort accordingly, increasing efficiency. Also, as one becomes an adult, metacognitive ability naturally improves.
- Declarative knowledge - the ability to know how much knowledge and ability one has about what one is learning
- Procedural knowledge - the ability to know the degree of understanding.
- Conditional knowledge - the ability to know which of the knowledge acquisition methods to choose.
