Smartphones Are Destroying Our Brains
Humans like multitasking. Back in prehistoric times, when we lived sensing the danger of predators, concentrating on one thing alone was bad for survival. So we are built to release dopamine when doing several things at once. Using a Smartphone gives an instant reward, and this weakens the Frontal Lobe, leaving patience and self-control weaker. In other words, an instant reward you can get whenever you want weakens concentration.
To raise concentration, our brains adopt a strategy of ignoring what is unnecessary. If there is a phone you love, the effort to ignore it is also needed, and that too is part of concentration.
Constant social media and internet communities also make you judge your own status as lower than it is. Self-esteem and aura are determined by self-awareness The lower you judge your own status to be, the further serotonin keeps falling. Simply raising serotonin is enough to turn monkeys into the new leader of the troop, to lower depression and to make them secrete more confidence. Facebook and Twitter, where people post only their best moments, drive these serotonin levels of ours down
How can we get out of it?
Cut smartphone screen time
You have to stretch out the delay before a digital reward as much as possible
Only at set times
Release the dopamine reward on schedule and keep uncertainty-driven dopamine release in check.
Spend more time moving
Movement suppresses impulsiveness. In primitive times, being good at running (being fit) helped you concentrate more fully on something, because you could run away immediately (more easily). As little as six minutes of movement raises concentration, and the fitter you are the lower your anxiety
