Paul Volcker

Appointed during President Jimmy Carter's administration, he was reappointed under President Ronald Reagan and served as Chair of the Federal Reserve for eight years.
During the stagflation period of the 1970s and early 1980s, when unemployment and inflation surged simultaneously due to the oil shocks, he succeeded in stabilizing inflation through monetary policy.
His name carries the epithet "inflation fighter." Members of the Board of Governors of the U.S. Federal Reserve, which in effect plays the role of the central bank of the world economy, are classified by their inclinations as hawks, doves, and swingers. In monetary policy decisions, hawks are "inflation fighters" who prioritize price stability and economic stability and prefer tightening, while doves are those who favor "easing," emphasizing full employment and economic stimulus even if it means tolerating inflation.
